A fast-growing Philadelphia area Stevedore and Marine Terminal Operator is seeking a Safety Supervisor in a highly dynamic, drug-free, workplace.

Successful Candidate must be available to work a variable schedule that will include occasional nights, weekends and holidays to effectively monitor the work practices and Safety compliance of Unionized labor.

Candidate will be responsible for managing and implementing a safety and loss control program during the loading and unloading of cargo vessels, warehouse deliveries and Terminal operations.

Candidate must be able to successfully partner with all Company Departments and Organized Labor as well as Governmental Agencies and First Responders.

A Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health, or equivalent job experience, is preferred. Successful candidates will possess the following qualities:

  • Self-motivated with effective organizational skills, time management and the ability to act independently when necessary.
  • Highly effective communicator able to work with Employees from diverse backgrounds.
  • Team player with a positive attitude who can professionally direct and guide varying groups of Employees.
  • Attention to detail while still able to evaluate overarching causes and effects.
  • Excellent knowledge of occupational safety equipment and procedures that includes, but is not limited to: PPE, atmospheric monitoring, fall protection, and hot work.
  • Strong correspondence and computer skills (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.) with the ability to learn additional function-specific software.
  • Able to perform safety inspections aboard cargo vessels, up into gantry cranes, and throughout Terminal facilities in all weather conditions. This includes the ability to operate in confined work areas, at heights, within vessel cargo holds, and traversing ladders and varying types of walking/working surfaces.
  • Working knowledge of State and Federal safety, health and environmental regulations, and the ability to further learn these regulations.
  • Effectively perform accident investigations, assess root causes, produce detailed incident reports, and track corrective actions.
  • Participate in, and monitor, a strict drug and alcohol program.
