HAZMAT Transportation for Shippers

Shippers need DOT HAZMAT certification to ship hazardous materials. According to US DOT 49 CFR§171, a hazardous material is any substance or material capable of posing an unreasonable risk to health, safety, and property when transported in commerce. There are 9 hazard classes, and it is up to the shipper to determine if they are offering hazardous materials for transportation into commerce.

Once that has been decided, the shipper is then responsible to identify and certify all HAZMAT employees. There are no exceptions for small companies of consumer commodities, but the training program can be modified to cover the functions that are specific to their job.

We help companies determine what materials are regulated and who needs training. We customize programs. We provide abbreviated training programs for those that have limited activities. We focus on the HAZMAT you ship. We can even focus on the mode of transportation. All of these services help you optimize your training budget.

Cost includes a copy of the 49 CFR §100-185, DOT labeling/ placarding charts, other hand-outs. Maintain your certification as a HAZMAT Shipper. Remember – training records are typically the first thing a HAZMAT inspector from DOT reviews. Make sure your training is current by meeting the 3 years refresher requirement. Certificates are issued upon successful completion.
